How Do I Begin to Eat Healthy?
March is National Nutrition Month, a month designed to cause us to pause and consider our eating habits.
During this month, our team at AFC Urgent Care Indian Trail want you to know some ways you can start making healthy eating a daily habit! Read on as we share some tips.
What Can I Do to Change My Eating Habits?
Chances are that you or someone in your family made a resolution back in January to start eating better in 2020. Even though it may be March already, it doesn’t mean that you can’t start getting on track with your healthy eating habits for the year.
It doesn’t have to be overwhelming, either. Choose whole, freshly prepared foods whenever possible instead of processed foods. Limit your intake of added sugars, sodium and saturated fat—and boost your intake of fruits and veggies and heart-healthy fats like those found in fish and olives.
Healthy Eating Basics
- Fill half your plate at meals with fruits and veggies.
- Choose lean proteins such as chicken or fish.
- Prepare foods in a healthy way, such as grilling or baking.
- Include a couple servings of fatty fish in your diet each week.
- Choose fruits and veggies of many colors.
- Choose whole grains instead of white, refined grains.
How Can I Fit More Fruits and Veggies Into My Diet?
Most research recommends eating at least four servings of fruit and five servings of vegetables on a daily basis. While that might seem like a lot for one day, it is actually easy numbers to achieve.
For starters, you can make fruits and vegetables more convenient at home by preparing them for snacks throughout the week. You can also add fruits to your breakfast smoothie while adding veggies to your scrambled eggs. Just go ahead and start adding some fruits and vegetables to your already favorite dishes!
