What Symptoms Can I Expect With the Flu?

The flu is an incredibly common illness, especially during the winter. Since it is so contagious, it can spread quickly through populations, and we have certainly seen that happen this season!

If you wind up with influenza this year, your illness could vary in severity from minor to a severe infection. Our AFC Urgent Care Indian Trail team wants you to feel better soon, so check out our latest blog that explains what to expect from influenza below.

Does Everyone Get Really Sick From the Flu?

Just like any other illness, the flu affects people in varying degrees. While you may just experience a runny nose and a fever, other people might suffer through every single symptom that the flu can produce! You just never know how your body will react to illness.

That is why it is important to stay home while you feel ill and to cover your coughs and sneezes every time. The flu can be spread from person to person really easily, and you don’t want to be the reason someone else gets sick.

Common Influenza Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Runny nose/congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Muscle or body aches

When Will I Get Over the Flu?

Thankfully, the flu doesn’t last very long! In most cases, you can expect to feel better within four to seven days once your body starts to overcome your infection. While you may not be contagious anymore, you may still have a cough for a while afterward.

While you wait for your symptoms to improve, take care of yourself! Eat well, drink a lot of water and rest as much as possible. The more you rest and take it easy, the more your body will be able to focus on getting better. As always, we are here for you if your symptoms don’t improve or you are experiencing more concerning issues like chest pain or trouble breathing.
